The Long Ridge School
Reminder

School will be closed this Monday, October 10, for Columbus Day.
Picture Day, Thursday, October 20.

On Monday we will be distributing order forms for Student Picture Day which will take place on Thursday, October 20. All students from Beginners - Grade 5 can participate. Families with students in the M/W/F Beginners will be scheduled for their individual and class photos when LifeTouch returns for make-up/retake day (TBA).  The easiest way to order photos is through the LifeTouch website mylifetouch.com  using Picture Day code: EJ531308Y0. You can also return the order form to the school but all orders must be received on or before picture day.

Parents can choose from a variety of "looks" and backgrounds for individual photos. Photos will be taken in a way that allows parents to decide between a standing pose or a close up, traditional school photo--or both! If you have any questions about the photographs, you can contact LifeTouch directly at 866-955-8342 or through their website.

Note: The date at the top of the order forms is incorrect. We postponed picture day from September 27 to October 20, due to a field trip conflict.

Halloween is coming

As Halloween approaches and children plan their costumes for the big event, please note the following recommendations for our school celebrations. Nursery children should not bring masks with costumes because masks are often frightening to others. K-5 students may bring masks and wear them when the Nursery children are not present. No costumes should include weapons. Students may wear their costumes to school on Friday, October 28, but need regular clothing to wear after the parade. We will be “celebrating” during Friday morning assembly on October 28. Class Room Parents are arranging special treats for each class at snack time on the 28th. Because the Beginners can often be overwhelmed at the parade, a smaller, age-appropriate celebration will be planned for their classroom. Beginners’ teachers will provide more information. Please do not send additional treats such as candy or cookies for the entire class, since these snacks must be monitored due to food allergies.

Open House for Prospective Parents

On Sunday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m., we will be hosting an Open House for prospective parents. Although we place ads in newspapers, magazines and on the web, we consistently find that our best advertising is through word of mouth. If you have friends, family or community members who are looking for the best school there is, please invite them to RSVP using this link.

Annual Fund Kick-Off Party

We hope everyone received their invitations to the kick-off party for the Annual Fund on Saturday, October 22, from 6-8 p.m., via paperless post. Please RSVP using the paperless invitation, by email or phone (203 322-7693.)
"A Night in Monte Carlo" Auction 2012

Thank you to everyone who attended the kick-off breakfast this morning. We are off to a great start. In case you haven’t heard, this year’s theme is going to be “A Night in Monte Carlo.” It will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Dolce Hotels and Resorts in Norwalk. For those of you who were unable to attend the breakfast and would like to be a part of planning the Auction, please contact Aurelia Heagle, Lambrina Mathews, or Aditi Shrikam (Co-Chairs).

Congratulations to…

Long Ridge staff member Danny Cepeda and his wife Noelia on the birth of Kate Daniella on October 4. Kate weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and is 20 ½ inches long.

Friday Teacher Appreciation Lunch

Each Friday very thoughtful parents, organized by Donna Volpitta, provide lunch for the faculty and staff. Thank you to Ariel Miller for the very delicious lunch last Friday from their Beach House Café restaurant in Old Greenwich. Thank you too to Vikktoria Cooper for today’s yummy lunch. We loved it!

Innisbrook Wrapping Paper Fundraiser

Innisbrook Wrapping Paper packets have been placed in each child’s cubby yesterday. Please let us know if you have not received one.

Fine-quality gift wrap and snack foods can be ordered through the order forms or on the Innisbrook website. The school receives 50% of the purchase when you use the school identification number 101757 on the Innisbrook website. Family and friends may also order online and school will receive credit.
