The Long Ridge School

FINANCIAL AID – Making Tuition Affordable

The Long Ridge School is committed to a student body that is economically, ethnically, and socially diverse.  Keeping our tuition as low as possible is one way the Board of Trustees tries to enable the broadest possible group of students to benefit from a Long Ridge education. The Board recognizes that tuition is a major expense for families and and we are proud of our relatively generous financial aid program.

Awards are available for current and incoming Nursery through Grade Five families and are solely based on demonstrated need. Financial Aid is determined using the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), a division of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Interested families submit a Parents’ Financial Statement, one for each parent in the case of separated or divorced parents, providing detailed financial information to SSS.  SSS evaluates the information based on a formula nationally accepted by independent schools. The results of the report are then sent to The Long Ridge School and the family.

Things to know about Financial Aid

  • Applying for financial aid has no bearing on the Admission Committee’s decision regarding acceptance into the school.
  • Awards are a direct grant toward tuition only. Our Beginners program, Nursery extended day program, and after-school lessons and activities, while valuable, are considered supplementary and not vital to receiving a complete Long Ridge School education.
  • You must apply and qualify each year. You can expect the same level of financial aid award if your circumstances and financial need stay the same.
  • Families who are applying or re-applying for financial aid must adhere to all deadlines for submission of applications and materials. The school’s ability to inform all applicants of award decisions as early as possible is essential. Failure to meet deadlines can result in loss of or decrease in aid.
  • When calculating need, the number of children at tuition-charging schools is included in the formula. It is required that families who apply for aid at The Long Ridge School also apply for financial aid at other tuition-charging schools siblings may attend.
  • Financial Aid is always strictly confidential to the Financial Aid Committee only. In return, we ask that families keep their financial aid experience, materials, and awards in strict confidence.
  • Our first responsibility in awarding financial aid is to our returning students and to their siblings.
