LRS School Reopen Plan 2020-2021
The emergence of the novel coronavirus pandemic in late 2019 and its global spread through early 2020 forced The Long Ridge School, like other schools around the world, to close the campus and continue teaching and learning remotely.
It happened so quickly, and the whole community responded just as quickly – not missing a beat. Across the School, teachers, staff, parents, and students picked up right where we left off before Spring Break. We came together in live virtual classrooms, joined our voices in Friday Assemblies, connected with peers, and kept right on learning! As our school year came to a close, we celebrated the achievements of our fifth-grade graduates and recognized each of them for their contributions to our school community. It was an end to a school year that nobody expected.
The resilience our students, teachers, and families demonstrated in adapting to new and often challenging conditions was extraordinary. As health conditions improve in Connecticut and businesses and schools prepare to reopen, we are eager to once again welcome students, faculty, and staff back to our beautiful campus.
We understand that this transition back to school may come with concerns and complexities, and we are committed to reorienting your children to the new school year in the safest and most supportive way possible.
- It is the intention of the School to reopen in September 2020 for all students in K-5 attending five days a week with a full-day schedule, and Beginners and Nursery students following their normal schedule.
- To do so, the school will conform to all applicable laws and Executive Orders and be guided by recommendations and expectations from the State of Connecticut, the Department of Health, and the Office of Early Childhood as applicable.
- The school will move the start date one week earlier to build in transition days. The focus of these transition days will be to introduce students and families to the new expectations and practices to ensure the health and safety of the LRS community, including health screening, hygiene practices, and social distancing.
- In addition, a heavy focus will be on SEL and team and community building
